January 13, 2010

We haven't finished.  That's all there is to report.  Sure, this is a software company and there are methods for making deadlines, but it takes a long time to launch.  And we're not on that schedule that has deadlines in it.  We'll keep you posted.

Behind Schedule

I'm behind schedule, but I guess that's what comes with trying to keep one company alive while starting another.  I made some good progress last night, and I should have a functional application soon.  Given the current circumstances and my apparent inability to concentrate, I can't give a date for deployment.  I can say that this application will be unique in several ways, but it unfortunately won't be the only app for the target audience.

Oh, well.  It's been a good learning experience so far and future applications should not take so long to develop.  The Android Dev Center is a wealth of information, but there is an apparent lack of explanation on how to use certain things.  Now I'm complaining - that was not my intention.

I suppose I can announce the app - it won't do much harm.  Code-name "Nigrine Flea" will be called TripPro, an application to help business travelers log their reimbursable/billable mileage and time, and export it to a format usable in a spreadsheet program.  This is not an original idea, but I did form this independently.  I'm somewhat concerned that the author of the other application might have some problems with it, but TripPro doesn't look at all like the competition.

I have a lot to learn about the Android platform, but this project is definitely underway - there's no turning back.  I'm far enough in to it that I can't change my mind.  I suppose that's a good thing.

"Nigrine Flea" - On Schedule

I'm on schedule, if it comes as a surprise to anyone (it does to me).  I've written the Use Case scenarios and hand-drawn screen shots to mimic sequences for all parts of the program.  Everything looks good, and there aren't many hurdles left.  I can think of one that might take some time, but that will be in the implementation phase.  Implementation will probably begin later today when I've had some sleep.

Overall it has been a productive day and I am looking forward to making this thing come alive.  I still have the deadline set for January 8 and pending any huge oversight discoveries or large obstacles, I believe I will deliver.

More to come.

Up and Running

I have finally finished the creation and design-on-the-fly website for Two Leg Software, where you're reading this right now.  I'm not sure if everything works, but it looks pretty good.

I didn't want to jump the gun on the website before I had a product ready, but I would have had to do it before deployment anyway - I can't tell the users of my applications that the website is twoleg.com without actually having a site there.  So the "having a site" part is at least out of the way.  Getting the rest of everything else together for deployment will be even more challenging.  I've given myself about one week to deploy the first app, and I intend to make that deadline.  Friday, January 8.  Stephen Hawking's 68th birthday.  Not that Dr. Hawking has anything to do with my software company; it's a coincidence.  I have seven days from tomorrow.

I'm sure there will be some really cool functionality in Nigrine Flea that will be added later, but at this point I want a working, useful, easy-to-use application to put on the market, and that's what I will keep in mind.  This is turning in to a journal - I'll stop now.  Any comments?

If you'll leave a comment, I'll know whether that part of the site works.

Note: This site is still in development, as are the products and the company itself. If you have any questions, just let me know!
